Why exactly did the Texas Tornado win the title so early in his WWF career? I know he proved himself in other federations, but he just walked in the door, beat Mr Perfect, someone who was unbeatable for the longest time, and took the title easily. Everyone else from this era had to pay their dues.

If Vince is a fan of you and you have a certain look, you dont have to work hard to achieve success. Looks like this was the case with the Tornado.

He didnt have the title for long though. I think it was done just to have a suprise ending to a Summerslam match.

They were in a bad situation anyway, because Beefcake was supposed to win, but that was when he got in his accident. They probably decided on Tornado last minute.

But you have to realize that while you use Mr. Perfect as an example, the same thing happened to him lol
He had big success in the AWA and immediately after he got the WWF, they cast him as an unstoppable force and he went undefeated for quite a long time.

HA! I know! This is great.
That's true that Perfect didn't win the belt immediately, HOWEVER...he was immediately put in the spotlight and pushed hard as the "PERFECT" WWF superstar with a stainless record.
Kerry Von Erich was huuuuge in the south, esp Texas and when Vince brought him in, he liked him and he knew he was already over with a large portion of the fans so he pushed him for the IC. Plus the IC contender's pool at the time was rather thin compared to past years. That's debatable and subjective, but you know what I'm saying.
