Here's some news from 1990.
Yep, Jesse is gone. He cleaned out his locker room last night and bids farewell to the WWF tomorrow morning. As reported by others, Jesse and Vince had a falling out which left Jesse with no alternative but leaving. Jesse's contract was up with the WWF and negotiations were not proceeding well. They ended up breaking down a couple of weeks back over a video computer deal. The Body had a deal offered to him to lend his name to a home video game. But Vince said no, since he has a direct deal with Nintento. I'm sure everyone recalls the similar situation from several years back. Sgt. Slaughter, now back in the WWF, had a pretty lucrative G.I. Joe deal and Vince wanted his piece of the pie. Slaughter upped and quit. He's back now with the understanding that Vince will keep his fingers out of Slaughter's deals. Current word on announcing replacements for Jesse give the front-runners as Lord Alfred Hayes and Bobby Heenan.

No one has ever been able to fill Jesse's shoes, not even Heenan. Jesse is the best color commentator of all time. He even did well with play by play at Wrestlemania 2.

Piper didnt work out as a commentator. If he was going to do it, he needed to play a heel. I still dont think he could come off as good as he was in the 80s.
