Did you like SNME starting at 11:30 pm or did you like The Main Event's time of 8:00 pm? Even though 8 was more convenient, I would say 11:30. That was part of the magic of SNME. The anticipation, waiting up all night to see it made it so fun. I would love hearing the words, "Saturday Night Live has been pre-empted this week so that we can bring you this special event", something like that.

I liked 11:30 better. Thats the time it started at and as you said it was part of its magic.

But here in Missouri we're in Central Standard Time, so SNME for me started at 10:30, right after the late night news. This was still pretty late for a kid in elementary schoool. I'd stay up, watch the end of the news in anticipation for the show and by the end of the show, it was pretty late and I was tired and I felt like I was really being treated by staying up so late and watching the complete show. And it felt great at the end of the show when the credits came on and Phil Collins' "Take Me Home" played (This was on earlier episodes...they changed it to something else later on). The 10:30 start time was special. It separated Saturday Night's Main Event from the rest of TV. I don't think showing SNME in prime time would have felt as cool. Also, having the main event of the show on first was a smart idea since it was so late and a lot of kids probably couldn't stay up to watch the whole show. Speaking of Saturday nights and the SNME pre-emption, Bobby, you mentioned Saturday Night Live. I also loved staying up late back then to watch Saturday Night Live, which had really original, funny skits and a great cast (Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Kevin Nealon, Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, Jan Hooks, Victoria Jackson, and later Mike Myers). Anybody remember when Tom Hanks used to host the show back from time to time back then? Those were my favorite episodes as a kid. Man, this thread brings back some memories. I miss the 80's.
